Event Description:

Buzz down to Standley Lake and discover in this family friendly program the importance of Honey Bees and pollination! Bee Guru, Gregg McMahan, will be here to share his wisdom and show us how bees are more than just a bug! We will also get the opportunity to safely see an active bee hive! We highly encourage you to bring sunscreen and water. Children must be accompanied by adults. You must register for this class through the City of Westminster's Activity Registration Webpage.

Class is free! All ages welcome. Class is limited to 20 spaces.

What to Bring: This class is outdoors, please dress appropriately. You will get the opportunity to view a live bee box! We will have bee suits for you.

This class is specifically designed for people who already have a bee hive and want to enhance their knowledge of bee keeping. Please dress appropriately for outdoor weather. Event Description:

VOC’s Cairn Youth Program is an outdoor stewardship program for high school students. The 9-month program engages youth in hands-on stewardship projects, environmental learning, and leadership development. Approximately 35 students participate each year. Cairn students participate in monthly events, ranging from environmental challenges such as trail building or fire restoration, to overnight outdoor adventures. They also plan, organize, and run their own stewardship project as a culminating challenge.

What to Bring: Benefits of Being a Cairn Mentor? • Make a real difference in the lives of Colorado youth and strengthen their connection to the outdoors • Help youth learn about the environment and outdoor stewardship in a fun and engaging way • Learn more about Colorado’s environmental issues Requirements & Commitments: • Prior experience working with and leading youth • Submit an application (including 3 references) • Successfully complete an interview and background check • Cairn Mentor Orientation (2 hours) • Commit to the program for the academic year (September through May) • Attend monthly meetings and projects (7-10 hour/month commitment)

Join a native plant specialist to discover what’s blooming this time of year at Devil’s Backbone Open Space, located just west of Loveland off of Hwy 34. Explore local ecology, learn what’s native and what’s not, and discuss ideas for using native plants in your home garden.

What to Bring: Water, snacks, and appropriate clothing for variable weather conditions.

The Gardens on Spring Creek to attend Nature’s Harvest Fest
Calling all families with children 12 and under! Kids who spend more time outside have greater attention spans, are more creative, and tend to be healthier, but it can be difficult to get them out there! In the Natural Areas Family Nature Club, you’ll meet other families with similar interests and challenges. Monthly commitment encouraged but not required. Plan to be outside in all weather, get dirty, and have fun! Parents must actively participate in all sessions. Free, registration required at naturetracker.fcgov.com
