Event Description:

Join Friends of the Peak for an exceptional experience helping to improve Barr Trail. Volunteers can camp near the work area and help both Saturday and Sunday. Those wanting to volunteer only Sunday should contact Friends of the Peak to arrange when and where to meet the group, which will be camping near the work area, about 3 miles up Barr Trail. The Pikes Peak Marathon leases rugged trucks before the races, and will take volunteers, tools, and gear up Longs Ranch Road over to Barr Trail Saturday morning and bring everyone back down Sunday afternoon (Thank you, Ascent and Marathon organizers!). The work will focus on removing slip and trip hazards for the runners in the upcoming Ascent and Marathon. Volunteers will remove exposed roots and rocks sticking up in the trail and other hazards. Work might also include improving drainage, repairing erosion, and other trail maintenance. Work will end around 3 to 3:30 p.m. The trucks from the Pikes Peak Marathon will meet the volunteers then to take everyone back down.
During the summer, free parking is available in the back parking lot at Tajine Alami. However, signs there say that overnight parking is not allowed. But we have special permission for Barr Trail volunteers to park overnight for the project.
Free to participate; no experience necessary, minimum age 13 with a parent, 16 without.
