Event Description:

Join Friends of the Peak for a memorable experience helping to improve Barr Trail, courtesy of support from both the Pikes Peak Cog Railway and Barr Camp (Thank you to both!). 15 volunteers will ride up in the 9:20 a.m. Cog to the stop at Mountain View. The group will then walk over to Barr Camp and work on the trail. Volunteers will improve drainage, repair erosion, and help with other trail maintenance. After that, Barr Camp will host all the volunteers for their traditional spaghetti dinner (at a 50% discount, with Friends of the Peak picking up the remaining tab). Volunteers can camp near Barr Camp. If Barr Camp does not fill up with guests paying full price, the hosts at Barr Camp will offer the remaining spaces to volunteers, with the same 50% discount, and Friends of the Peak paying the rest. Volunteers will want to be prepared to camp, bringing the needed camping gear, though we’ll know more closer to the project date. (Be sure to register to receive all the updates via e-mail.) Sunday morning, Barr Camp will again feed all the volunteers, with their scrumptious Pikes Peak Power Pancakes. After this hearty breakfast, volunteers will again help improve Barr Trail. In time to catch the ride down, work will stop, and the volunteers will hike back over to the stop at Mountain View Sunday afternoon. The Cog will pick up the volunteers on the train passing Mountain View at 3:55.
Note that the time for Saturday morning might change. 9:20 is currently the earliest train for the day, but if the Cog adds an 8 a.m. train, then we’ll shift to that train. All those registered for the project will receive e-mail with any time changes.
Work on Saturday will end around 3 to 3:30 p.m. Volunteers not staying the night will need some time to hike down, about 6 to 7 miles, to the trailhead.
During the summer, free parking is available in the back parking lot at Tajine Alami. However, signs there say that overnight parking is not allowed. But we have special permission for Barr Trail volunteers to park overnight for the project.
Free to participate; no experience necessary, minimum age 13 with a parent, 16 without.
For more information or to register go to the Projects page at www.fotp.com, or e-mail .
