Event Description:

Join the Friends of Dinosaur on Saturday September 20, 2014 from 10am to 2pm for free hands-on activities including gold panning, fossil sifting, metal detecting and dinosaur track painting at the Visitor Center! Sluice mining and geode cracking will be available for a fee. FODR geologists and visiting experts will man booths about earthquakes and faulting, volcanic eruptions and volcanic ash, landslides and rockfalls, radiation, floods, swelling soils, wildfires, and other hazards. Denver Firefighters Museum and West Metro will participate. Ready Colorado, Metro Volunteers and Radio Disney will offer expertise on preparedness as part of FEMA’s National Preparedness Month. On the trail, guides will explain the geology and fossils along Dinosaur Ridge. Biking or hiking the trail is free or take the shuttle for $4 per person, 3 & under ride free.
