Event Description:

This free community event welcomes kite attractions from around the world for kite flying, demonstrations, and competitions. There will also be concessions, a free Kite Making Station and giveaways throughout the day. Biking or walking to the festival is encouraged as parking is limited.

This year, the City of Fort Collins is partnering with HobbyTown and the Confucius Institute at Colorado State University to welcome internationally renowned kite fliers, Yong Yang and Zhanjun Ding, from the Pengcheng Kite Folk Art Center of Weifang, Shandong Province, China. The Center was founded in 1992 and has rich experience in kite design, making and flying. Yang and Ding will fill the skies with giant dragon and animal kites, and will be available for demonstrations and lessons.

Returning to the festival is Mix McGraw (who holds the World Record for flying 230 kites at one time), Bob Matteo (who will launch his giant octopus, clownfish and scuba diver kite) and John Farrell (who will perform several kite ballets). Children visiting the Kite Making Station will receive a free kite that they can decorate, attach tails and fly. In addition, more than 100 kites will be given away throughout the festival to those who win contests or drawings. Vendors will also be in attendance with summer program information and treats and merchandise for sale.
