Founded in Scotland in 1968, Nazareth took their name from Nazareth, Pennsylvania, which is mentioned in the first line of The Band’s classic song The Weight. Nazareth's first hit the international rock scene with their 1975 album Hair of the Dog. Their melodic ballad Love Hurts was released as a hit single in the United Kingdom and in the United States, where it went platinum. Other hits include Dream on, Where Are You Now, Star, and Morning Dew.

Still recording and touring, they released The Newz in 2008 to coincide with their 40th Anniversary Tour through Europe.
