Safe Summer Kick Off on Get Outdoors Day

Get Outdoors Day Colorado and SouthWest Denver Coalition are joining forces to host Safe Summer Kick Off on  Get Outdoors Day (SSKO GO), Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Garfield Lake Park from 10am to 3pm. This free, family-friendly event is designed to promote access to healthy and safe outdoor spaces, support under-resourced communities, and celebrate nature exploration.

Public lands link local communities to recreation opportunities across the West. These outdoor spaces also act as a classroom where kids can get their hands dirty, learn about nature and just have fun. Get Outdoors Day Colorado and SouthWest Denver Coalition aim to foster and facilitate an educational experience to encourage participants of all cultures, skill levels, and ages to interact with the outdoors.

SSKO GO is a collaborative project with Get Outdoors Day Colorado leadership partners from Metro Denver Nature AllianceDenver Parks and RecreationSouthwest Denver CoalitionColorado Parks and WildlifeUSFSNational Park ServiceBLMCity and County of Denver, local government, non-profits, law enforcement, and other Colorado-based partners.  We look to provide an intentional, inclusive, and safe outdoor space to explore adventure activities such as swimming, fishing, hiking, climbing, biking, boating, navigation, nature identification, connection to basic resources, and more. In addition, this event will host live entertainment, free food, snacks, prize drawings, youth/children activities, and a career and family resource fair.
