Brooks Canyon at Bobcat Ridge Natural Area, meet at the parking lot to carpool into the site.
Join Natural Areas staff members for a peek at migrant and resident birds in Brooks Canyon. This area is closed to the public so you must arrive on time and leave with the group. Off trail, bumpy ground, vegetation may be high. Wear long pants, insect repellent, and closed-toe shoes. Bring water and binoculars. 1-2 miles; easy. See American bison in their natural habitat, the shortgrass prairie! We will meet at Soapstone Prairie Natural Area to learn about the bison and their impact on this ecosystem as we observe the herd. Please note: The bison are constantly on the move and we cannot guarantee that they will be visible. Bring binoculars, snacks, water, closed-toe shoes, and sun protection. ½ mile, easy. Come say goodbye to summer at our 3rd annual Westy Family Camp Night! Enjoy canoeing, cookouts, s’mores by the fire, outdoor nature programs, arts and crafts, performances, and much more with your loved ones. A schedule with all the available activities will be sent to you a week before the scheduled camp night.

Check in will begin at 12:00pm on Saturday, September 10.

Come join us this summer at Standley Lake for story time around the campfire. Not only will we be sharing S’MORE stories around a campfire, but also enjoy what nature has to offer by taking a short nature walk. Children must be registered with an Adult.

Summer is the season to welcome growth, longer days, and lots and lots of sprouting plants! Have you ever hiked at Standley Lake and asked yourself, I wonder if that flower is edible? Join, the Urban Forager, Kate Armstrong, to identify many wild edibles that you can add to your menu. You will not only discover what plants are edible, but also which ones to avoid!

Have you ever wondered what the lake looks like under the glow of the moon? Join our park naturalist for a full moon stroll and see firsthand the lake in a whole new light on the first day of summer! We will not be using flashlights.
