Enjoy viewing the night sky with telescopes and knowledgeable volunteers provided by the Northern Colorado Astronomical Society. Dress warmly and bring a blanket or chair to sit on. Event Description:

Joe Butler, nicknamed “Big Trout Joe”, will headline the Rocky Mountain Flycasters April 20th meeting. Butler has made the search for big fish his lifetime passion. His record brown trout was not surpassed for twenty years, and he still holds a Kokanee salmon record. He is the author of six books and has been the subject of over one hundred newspaper and magazine articles. Butler also hosts his own internet radio show. Over the years he has fished with and documented catches with many of the other great names in the fishing world.

Event Description:

Venture into the heart of the Backcountry Wilderness Area through a guided tour. Learn about local plants and wildlife as we hike to our campfire destination. Roast a marshmallow over a fire and even bring your own picnic.

Difficulty: Easy. We will be off-trail, but on mostly level terrain.

Our outdoor studio will consist of a cozy campfire workshop for an evening of relaxation and imagination as our instructor guides you step-by-step in creating a masterpiece you will be proud to display. Afterward, we will celebrate and share laughs while roasting marshmallows and making s'mores.

Event Description:

Leave the city lights behind and take a night horse-drawn hayride into the Highlands Ranch Backcountry Wilderness Area where you will be amazed by the number of stars that can be seen. Bring a blanket, snacks, telescope and constellation guide as we stare up into the night sky. Relax as you breathe in the fresh air while listening to our local astronomers explain all that lies the abyss.

Event Description:

This is the centennial year for the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. It's an at that was designed to protect non-game avian species from humans and it's done a world of wonders for conservation.

Come celebrate the wonders of migrating birds through a Mysteries of Migration presentation done by Wild Wings Environmental Education. This one hour interactive program explores the marvels and mysteries of migration. After the presentation, participate in hands-on activities and games that emphasize the importance of migration and ways that humans impact it for better or worse.

Event Description:

Come meet the Backcountry Wilderness Area chickens! Join us for a campfire, time with our chickens, and a fun craft. You'll even get to meet horses Bella and Buster!

All craft supplies will be provided. Wear clothing that can get a little messy. We will be right near the entrance to the property, so if you're running late or need to leave early, it's not a problem.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Event Description:

The Backcountry Wilderness Area and South Platte Park are partnering up for this hike to provide you with a wealth of information about our largest bird of prey, the Golden Eagle. We'll hike to see an area where we can see a nest and maybe even an eaglet or two. If we have extra time we'll explore some of the private HRCA trails in search of songbirds, deer, and other wildlife.

What to Bring: You may want to bring your binoculars and/or a camera.

Celebrate Earth Day by getting outdoors. Nature's Educators will present their live animal program, Critters Don't Like Litter, in the Highlands Ranch Backcountry Wilderness Area. Come join in on the fun and learn why every day is Earth Day.

While the event is free, we do ask that you register so we have a head count.

What to Bring: This will take place outdoors. Bring a picnic blanket or camp chairs for something to sit on.
