Event Description:

Northern Colorado Astronomical Society will set up telescopes in the south end of the park near Heinricy Lake. Park visitors will be able to look through telescopes to see star constellations and planets! NCAS will also be available to answer questions and talk to guests about the night sky.

We will start with 4 bright planets stretching across the sky. Elusive Mercury will be low in the west. Next is Jupiter with its impressive cloud bands and 4 main moons. Mars is high in the sky, dimmed slightly from our April closest approach as Earth pulls away from in orbiting the sun. Finally Saturn with its incredible rings will be improving steadily through the evening as it rises higher in the southeast. As the sky darkens, observe star clusters and distant galaxies. Skygazing will wind down with views of the moon as it rises and lights up the sky around 10:30p.

What to Bring: Bring binoculars if you have them, but help preserve everyone's night vision by trying to NOT use flashlights.
