Event Description:

Explore the ‘ears’ on Rabbit Ears pass while learning about the geology of this unique area. Observe glacial erratics, and extrusive volcanic rocks while contemplating weathering and erosion processes. Discuss the differences in mountain peaks of extrusive igneous rocks, like Rabbit Ears Peak, and remnants of intrusive igneous volcanic plugs like WaltonPeak & WhitleyPeak. On a clear day, there are amazing 360° views to be had including WhitleyPeak, FlatTops & WaltonPeak, GoreRange, Mt. Zirkel Wilderness and RockyMountainNational Park. This walk is easy-moderate until you reach the base of the ears where the hike becomes strenuous for the last 75 yards. Registration is required, cost is $50*.

What to Bring: Sunscreen, water, hiking boots, lunch/snack.
