Event Description:

We’re timing our arrival to photograph sunrise from the awe-inspiring overlook into the valley below. We’ll explore around the overlook, and drop into the valley to cottonwood gallery forest along the creek, making a variety of photographs while looking for porcupines and wildflowers. From here, we’ll drive a short distance to the bison pasture for up-close photographs of these icons of the prairie. We’ll have lunch in the field, take some short walks, give field feedback on your images and help you with your compositions while you’re making photographs.
What you’ll learn:
* Composing Big Landscapes and “the rule of thirds.”
* How to compose images for impact.
* Proper camera handling technique.
* Get down, get vertical, change your way of seeing.
* Composition tips for wildlife and people.
* Evaluating natural light and more.
What you’ll need:
* A camera that you’re comfortable using, a few lenses and a tripod if you’re serious. Bring you manual if you’re unsure about camera operation.
* Comfortable shoes that you can walk short distances in, dress in layers for a chilly start and a steady warm up.
* Hat, sunscreen, and water. There will be snacks available, but you may want to bring something that you really enjoy.
