Voices of the Valley: an Evening of Stories and Poetry about the Land and Water of the Upper Arkansas Valley

On Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at 7:00 pm the Land Trust of the Upper Arkansas will be conducting an event entitled, “Voices of the Valley” at The Book Haven in Salida. This will be an evening of stories and poetry about the Upper Arkansas Valley and will include a special reading by Susan Tweit, along with readings by the Shavano Poets. We are pleased to have Salida’s own Susan Tweit as our very special guest. Susan is an accomplished writer and speaker. She is the author of twelve books and has written for the Los Angeles Times, High Country News and Audubon. Her writings capture the magic of the natural world and our connection to the landscape.

The Land Trust of the Upper Arkansas works to protect the most important natural and agricultural land and water resources in the Valley. The Land Trust has invited our talented neighbors out for a night of celebration of the land and water that defines our daily lives. Dick Cuyler, Land Trust Board Member and member of the Shavano Poets, states: “The very land we enjoy every day is the subject for many of our writers and poets. It is natural that we share this with the Land Trust and the public. Through the written word we can help make the connection to what is important for us now and in the future.”

We invite you to join us to listen to a wealth of stories and poetry. Land Trust Executive Director, Andrew Mackie, will also give a brief introduction to our mission and work. The event is free and open to everyone. In addition, we will have dessert and juice as refreshments.
