Event Description:

Snap some pictures on this guided hike around Margarets Pond in July and Standley Lake in August and view the season's abundance of colorful wildflowers, foliage, and gorgeous vistas! While getting exercise and fresh air we will learn about the environment, including flower names and common wildlife. Dress appropriately. Bring sunscreen and water.

Paddle alongside the park Naturalist and discover the rich history behind Standley Lake, and the oasis it provides for people and wildlife alike today. Wear shoes and clothes that can get wet, but keep you warm. Paddles, life jackets, and watercraft are included.

About the Stewardship Site:
Located in the southern portion of the Conejos Peak Ranger District, the Rio de los Pinos has its headwaters in the South San Juan Wilderness and drains southwards into the Trujillo Meadows Reservoir near the Rio Grande National Forest. This highcountry reservoir is 69 surface acres in size and offers mountain views as well as fishing for browns, rainbows and occasional brook trout. Volunteers will camp in the adjacent campground.

The Pikes Peak Chapter of the Mule Deer Foundation (MDF) is hosting M. U. L. E. Y. Day at the Rocky Mountain Roosters facilities (North of Calhan) on Saturday June 9th, 2018. The MDF is a charitable non-profit 501(c) (03) wildlife conservation organization. M. U. L. E. Y. (Mindful, Understanding, Legal and Ethical Youth) is a MDF shooting sport and wildlife conservation program oriented to youth. The program’s mission statement is: To safely introduce youth to shooting sports, ensuring the sports continued growth. The two main tenets of the M. U. L. E. Y. Program are:

Location Details: FROM COLORADO SPRINGS: East on Hwy 24 to Calhan. North on Calhan Highway which is one of the last streets in town. (There is a sign that points to the airport, this is the road!) Drive 7 1/2 miles, you'll come off pavement and your next left will be Road 78. Turn left and drive 3/4 mile to the entrance of the club. FROM DENVER: South on I-25 to the Founders Parkway exit just north of Castle Rock. (This is where the Factory Outlet stores are) East on the parkway to the intersection of Hwy 86. Continue east on Hwy 86 past the town of Kiowa 8 1/2 miles and you'll see a sign that points to Calhan, this is Road 77. Drive south on Road 77 to the "T" intersection, turn left on Road 94 and follow it around and it turns into Road 81. Continue south on Road 81 to Road 78, turn right and we are at the bottom of the hill. (About 10 miles from Hwy 86.)

Bald eagles soaring through the skies is a beautiful sight to behold, but at one time they didn’t have the admiration they do now. Learn about the history of the U.S.’s national emblem and how they came back from the brink of extinction! All ages welcome. 25 spots available.
